The Kerala University or the University of Kerala is one of the first 16 universities of India and the first in the state of Kerala. Formerly called the University of Travancore, it was established in 1937.

Currently, the University has 16 faculties, 41 departments of teaching and research in addition to study centres and other departments. It offers nearly 350 courses at UG, PG and PhD level. The University has over 150 affiliated colleges and a School of Distance Education.

Admission Process

The admission cycle of Kerala University begins generally in February. The admission process for all courses is mentioned below:

  • Kerala University BTech and BArch admission is based on the score in Kerala Engineering, Architecture and Medical and Pharmacy (KEAM) exam
  • Admission to all UG courses except BFA, BPA and BPEd programmes is completely merit-based
  • For BFA, BPA and BPEd courses, the admission is based on an entrance test conducted by the University
  • Admission to all law programmes are based on KLEE score
  • For PG programmes, the University conducts an entrance test followed by an interview
  • Kerala University MBA admission is based on a candidate’s performance in KMAT/ CAT or CMAT followed by a GDPI round
  • MPhil and PhD admission is granted on the basis of university-based entrance exam followed by an interview

Scholarships

Kerala University provides the following financial assistance schemes to needy students:

Student’s Aid Fund Scholarship

This scholarship is offered to the students whose family income is Rs 25,000 annually (or less). The candidates need to have the Income Certificate of the working parent granted by the village officer.

Student’s Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme [SGPAIS]

This scholarship scheme covers the medical expenses of the students in case of accidents up to Rs 25,000 and a death claim up to Rs 1,00,000.
