The SASTRA Deemed University or the Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy is a highly-ranked higher education institution in Thirumalaisamudram village of Tamil Nadu. Established as Shanmugha College of Engineering in 1984, the institution was granted the status of a deemed university in 2001 under the Section 3 of University Grants Commission Act of 1956. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited it with GRADE A+. SASTRA has also received good ratings from the global ranking agencies like Times Higher Education and QS.

SASTRA has eight schools, two centres and a directorate of distance education offering undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in science, engineering, medicine, education, arts, law and management. Technology Business Incubator at the university provides expertise in 3D printing, robotics and Internet of Things (IoT).

Admission Process

The candidates must download the application form from the university website, fill and submit it in time to secure admission. The admission to all the programmes at SASTRA is based on merit. The students applying for admission at the university must have a qualifying degree from an authorized institution. B.Tech recipients with a minimum aggregate of 60% in science, mathematics and computer science are eligible for applying for admission. However, the candidates are shortlisted as per their JEE Main scores. In the case of Law programmes, the candidates must have cleared CLAT, while GATE qualified candidates are eligible for MTech at SASTRA. For MBA, the applicants must have a valid score in CATXATAIMAT, CMAT or AIMCAT.

 The applicants of BOptom programmes must have a valid NEET score along with a normalized aggregate in grade 12. Recipients with over 60% aggregate in BOptom or any equivalent optometry programme are eligible for applying for MOptom at SASTRA. Further, MOptom admissions are awarded based on the scores of the recipients in the entrance test and the interview conducted by the institution.

Placements

The Department of Training and Placement is responsible for the career planning process and fulfilling professional development needs of the students. It promises wide career opportunities to the students and arranges both on and off-campus recruitments every year. Every year, several corporations and organizations visit the campus for recruitment. Tata Consultancy Services is the largest recruiter of SASTRA. The other top recruiters are:

SASTRA’s Department of Training and Placement organizes and coordinates several programmes at the university to enhance student personality and promote skill development. It conducts group discussions, mock interview practice sessions and aptitude tests to prepare students for placements. It also provides various in-plant training and internship opportunities in leading industries.

Scholarships

SASTRA offers merit-based scholarships to meritorious and skilled students under the following categories:

· It awards merit scholarships to the students who fall in the top 3 to 10% of high scorers in their semester examinations. The students are offered one-fifth of the semester fee

· The top 3% scorers at the university are offered two-fifth of the semester fee
