The Pondicherry University is a central university located in Puducherry, which was established in 1985 under an Act of Parliament. The University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is accredited with an “A” grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In 2019, the University was ranked 48th as per the NIRF ranking framework, and 67th to 100th for MBA programme. Apart from this, in the same year, the University was also ranked 67th among all universities by the Outlook.
The University has more than 100 affiliated colleges for various streams, including Arts, Engineering, Science, Commerce, Education and many more. Out of which, the University has 20 affiliated colleges for Arts and Science, 24 affiliated colleges for Teaching Education, 18 affiliated colleges for Engineering, six Medical affiliated colleges and 10 Nursing and Paramedical affiliated colleges.
Currently, the University offers more than 15 full-time UG, PG and doctorate programmes along with two integrated programmes in Arts and Science. These full-time courses are offered under 14 on-campus schools, namely School of Management, School of Education, School of Humanities, School of Life Sciences and more. Apart from the full-time programmes, the University also offers five UG and PG programmes in Management, Commerce, Arts and Business Administration under the School of Distance Education.

Admission Process
Pondicherry University admissions are conducted online through the official website of the University. Admission to most of the programmes is based on an entrance test conducted by the University. All Indians, as well as, international students can apply for the admission process. The details regarding the admission for all programmes are mentioned below:
Integrated Courses
- Admission to BSc + MSc and BA + MA is based on an entrance test conducted by the University
- Candidates, who have completed Class 12 with an aggregate of 50%, can apply for BA + MA programme
- For admission to BSc + MSc programme, a candidate must have completed Class 12 with PCM with an aggregate of 50%
PG Courses
- MA, MSc, MTech, LLM, MCom, MCA, MSW, MPA, M.Lib.I.Sc, MEd, MPEd admissions are based on the University entrance test
- Admission to MBA programme is based on CAT cut-off
- Candidates, who have completed bachelor’s degree in the relevant stream, can apply for PG programmes
PhD Course
- The University conducts its own entrance test for admission to PhD programme
- Candidates, who have completed master’s degree in the relevant stream with an aggregate of 55%, can apply for PhD programme
Additional Courses
- Admission to PG diploma is done on merit basis
- Candidates, who have completed bachelor’s degree in the relevant stream, can apply for PG diploma
Distance-Education Courses
- Admission to BBA, BCom, MCom, MA and MBA programmes is done on merit basis
- Candidates, who have completed Class 12 or three-year diploma in the relevant stream, can apply for BBA and BCom programmes
- For admission to MCom, MA and MBA programmes, a candidate must have completed bachelor’s degree in the relevant stream
Courses
The University offers two integrated programmes in Science and Arts and 12 PG programmes in Computer Application, Library Science, Management, Arts, Education, Law, Engineering and more. At the doctorate level, the University offers PhD in more than 20 specialisations, and a PG diploma in four specialisations. Apart from these full-time courses, the University also offers BBA, BCom, MCom, MA and MBA under the School of Distance Education.
