Mastercard, one of the world’s biggest payment providers, pulled support for the site last week over the scandal.

A New York Times report had accused the site of being “infested” with child-abuse and rape-related videos.

Pornhub says its new measures are now more strict than any social media platform.

The move means that only videos uploaded by verified content partners and people featured in the videos, who are members of its model programme, remain online.

Most of the site’s content was uploaded by unverified community members. Millions of videos have been removed from view as a result of the new policy.

Pornhub also claims it is being targeted by organisations that want to abolish pornography, rather than being assessed on its merits.

Days after Pornhat updated its website policies, the website has removed a majority of videos that were uploaded by unverified users. Pornhub came under the scanner after a New York Times report claimed that the adult site monetizes unlawful content. Post the allegations, two major payment processors Mastercard and Visa suspended their services.

Pornhub had announced that it would ban users from downloading videos from its website. It had also announced that only the verified users, who are enrolled in the Model program will be able to upload content on the website. However, as per a Motherboard report Pornhub has removed most of the videos from its website.

“We are taking major steps to further protect our community. Going forward, we will only allow properly identified users to upload content. We have banned downloads. We have made some key expansions to our moderation process, and we recently launched a Trusted Flagger Program with dozens of non-profit organizations. Earlier this year, we also partnered with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and next year we will issue our first transparency report. Full details on our expanded policies can be found below,” Pornhub had said in a statement.

Motherboard report states that Pornhub had deleted over 10 million videos from its website. It earlier had around 13.5 million videos but now only 2.9 million videos are there the site. The videos that are available on the website are mainly uploaded by users. The platform is similar to YouTube where a user can upload videos of his choice. However, now that the rules have been changed, PornHub will only allow verified users to post video on its platform.

Soon after the New York Times’ report on Pornhub, two major Payment processors including Mastercard and Visa said that they would suspend payment services till the investigation is on. The suspension of services would mean that users would no longer be able to make purchases on Pornhub using their Mastercard and Visa.

Visa had announced on Twitter that it is suspending Pornhub’s acceptance privileges. “Given the allegations of illegal activity, Visa is suspending Pornhub’s acceptance privileges pending the completion of our ongoing investigation. We are instructing the financial institutions who serve MindGeek to suspend the processing of payments through the Visa network,” the tweet read.
