The Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, commonly known as BIT Mesra, is a private deemed university, affiliated toe University Grants Commission. The institute was established in 1955 by the leading industrialist and philanthropist, BM Birla and was granted the autonomous status in 1972 under section 30 of UGC Act 1956.
Over the years, the institute has set up its centres at various locations across the country and offshore centres in UAE and Oman. It is addressed as one of the premier engineering and technical institutes in India. BIT has a total of 17 departments offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programmes in popular streams such as engineering, science, management, pharmaceutical sciences and hotel management.
Admission Process
Candidates must fill the online application form (available on the official website). The institute conducts entrance tests for many courses. While admission to several programmes is awarded based on the merit or score of the candidates in nationally administered examinations and academic record.
BArch, BE and BTech admissions at BIT are based on the all India rank of candidates in JEE-Main conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) or Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). Candidates must have a valid JEE-Main or NEET-UG score for admission to BPharm programme. BBA, BCA and MSc aspirants must hold a qualifying degree from an authorized board, institute or university (10th, 12th and UG).
BIT Mesra awards admission to MCA, BSc Animation and Multimedia, BHMCT and MSc Animation Design based on candidates’ score in qualifying entrance test. Candidates with GATE qualification are eligible for applying for MTech, ME and MUP programmes. To be eligible for MBA at BIT, applicants must hold a valid score in CAT/ MAT/ XAT or CMAT. The institute offers merit-based MPharm admission to both GPAT-qualified and non GPAT candidates.
For non GATE candidates, it offers admission based on their performance in the entrance test and academic record. For pursuing PhD at BIT, an applicant must attain a high score in written test and interview apart from an excellent academic record.
