Technical University of Berlin (TUB),Admission,Fees or TU Berlin is one the largest technical universities of Germany with a main campus in Berlin and a satellite campus in Egypt. It had a total enrollment of 33,356 students for summer 2020 out of which 25% were international students.

With its roots dating back to 1879, ranking of TU Berlin has always been among the top 10 universities of Germany. The university is also part of TU9 society. This allows its students to visit other members via exchange programs.

Technical University of Berlin has seven colleges offering more than 100 study programs in the fields of science, engineering, management and technology. Although acceptance rate is not officially provided by the university, admission to some programs specially those with fixed number of spaces is very difficult.

Technical University of Berlin Campus

TU Berlin campus is located in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf at Ernst-Reuter-Platz. It includes all seven faculties, main building of university, offices of Executive Board, architecture, chemistry & mathematics building. Other than this, university has several other campuses located across Berlin:

  • Wedding Campus: This campus is situated in the borough of Mitte and home to the main experimental hall of the Institute of Civil Engineering. TU research institutes on Ackerstraße and Seestraße are also part of this campus.
  • EUREF Campus: It is an independent European teaching, research and advisory institute of TU Berlin located in the borough of Tempelhof-Schöneberg.
  • Dahlem Campus: It is located at Königin-Luise-Straße 22 in the borough of Steglitz-Zehlendorf.

Technical University of Berlin Accommodation

Technical University of Berlin does not have an on-campus housing facility. However, international students can apply to private accommodation located near the campus of university. Mainly two types of housing are available for students enrolled in universities of Berlin:

  • Student Dormitory: These are managed by the Student Union of Berlin and have approximately 10,000 spaces. They cost around 250 EUR per month including the community cost. Student Dormitories are the cheapest option but getting into them is difficult. Students have to apply months before to secure a place.
  • Apartments: Another option is living in shared or private apartments costing around 300 to 700 EUR per month including the communal cost.

Meal plans are not included in the rent of a student dormitory or apartment. International students have to pay an additional cost of 250 EUR to 300 EUR per month for food.

Technical University of Berlin Admissions

International students are required to have following qualifications to apply for admission in TU Berlin:

  • For Bachelors: University entrance qualification certificate
  • For Masters: Undergraduate degree equivalent to bachelor’s program of German university

In addition to this, international students also have to demonstrate proficiency in English or German language depending upon the language of instruction of the program to which they are applying to.

German proficiency can be demonstrated by submitting one of the following certificates:

  • DSH-2 or DSH-3
  • TestDaF certificate with TDN 4 or higher in all modules
  • Minimum grade of 4.0 in the German language section of assessment test from any preparatory school
  • DSD II
  • Goethe-Zertifikat C2
  • telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule

Minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL score of 80 to 92 is required as a proof of English proficiency.

Technical University of Berlin Fees

As Technical University of Berlin is a public university of Germany, no tuition fees is charged from students enrolled here. A total fee of 308 EUR payable per semester is charged as apart of enrollment fees. It can be further broken down into following components:
