The Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University (VMOU) Established in 1987, is a state-level university, located in Kota, Rajasthan. Earlier, it was known as Kota Open University and was renamed in 2002. The University is recognised as a pioneering institution for open learning in Rajasthan. The establishment of VMOU took place with the amalgamation of two institutes of correspondence courses, namely Institute of Correspondence Studies & Continuing Education, Jaipur and College of Correspondence Studies, Udaipur with a view to strengthen and achieve proper coordination among the scattered vast distance educational resources.
The major objective of VMOU is to provide educational opportunities to a larger segment of the population, particularly SC/ ST and people residing in rural and remote areas.
The University offers UGC-approved programmes in the fields, including Science, Engineering, Management, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Computer Science, Mass Communication, Commerce, etc. It has various study centres to coordinate the course curriculum of these courses as listed below:

These study centres offer special facilities to the students, including audio and video facilities, coordinators and other trained supervisors, programme-specific outlook, regional service units. VMOU has a special advisory cell at its headquarters. All forms and admission documents are issued from this cell. The cell also contains an array of promotional literature and solves all problems and grievances of students. VMOU conducts frequent online seminars and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of the students.

Admission Process
VMOU application process is available in online mode. Candidates need to register themselves by visiting the official website of the University and paying an application fee of Rs 1,000 using debit card/ credit card/ net banking. It conducts admissions in two cycles: January (November-February) and July (May-August). VMOU admission to all its programmes (except B.Ed and MBA) is mainly based on aggregate obtained by candidates in previous qualifying degree/ exam. The University also offers lateral entry admission for the second and third semester to some of its UG programmes. A relaxation of five per cent in aggregate is allowed for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates.
- Admission to B.Ed programmes is based on VMOU B.Ed Entrance Exam, conducted in May-June by the University itself
- Candidates willing to seek admission to MBA programme need to have a valid VMOU MET score. However, candidates with a valid CAT/ MAT/ CMAT, are exempted from VMOU MET and are directly considered for admission

Scholarships
VMOU offers scholarships at Rajasthan Online Scholarship System (ROSE) portal based on merit of previous qualifying degree/ exam. Candidates applying for the first time on the official portal have to register first with ‘New Students Registration’ button. Students who had applied earlier for the scholarship application cannot modify their registered details on the ROSE portal.
