The TNDALU, Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University, popularly known as is a state-level university which was established in 1997 in Chennai. The University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI). It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Association of Common Wealth Universities, UK and Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. This is the first full-fledged Law University that offers legal education in the state, and is the first of its kind not only in the country but also in South Asia.

University offers courses in legal education through its School of Excellence, post-graduation and distance education departments. It also offers courses through 12 affiliated colleges in Tamil Nadu located at Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Chengalpattu, Vellore and Salem. Apart from these, there is also a distance education unit as well as a few evening college programmes for various postgraduate diploma courses. The University has more than 35 assistant and associate professors. It has launched AIR Law Café and E-Library in collaboration with AIR Law Academy and Research Centre (ALARC), Nagpur.

TNDALU Admission Process

TNDALU admissions are conducted through online as well as offline mode. The University has a separate online portal for admissions. Candidates can also visit the admission office for the offline application process. The eligibility details for all the courses are mentioned below:

  • Admission to all the programmes is merit-based
  • Candidates, who have completed Class 12, can apply for BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), BCom LLB (Hons) and BCA LLB (Hons) programmes
  • A candidate must have completed a bachelor’s degree to apply for LLB programme
  • Candidates, who have completed three/ five-year LLB degree, can apply for LLM programme

TNDALU Courses

Presently, the University offers BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), BCA LLB (Hons), BCom LLB (Hons), LLB (Hons) and LLM programmes in several specialisations of Law. At the UG level, the University offers BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), BCA LLB (Hons) and BCom LLB (Hons) programmes with a duration of five years each. The duration of LLB is three years, whereas LLM is offered with a duration of two years. The UG and LLB programmes are offered under the School of Excellence, whereas LLM programme is offered across affiliated colleges. TNDALU Scholarships

The University offers several endowments and scholarships to its students. These scholarships are offered on the merit and category-basis. Details regarding some of the TNDALU scholarships are given below:

Jeeva Endowment Scholarship: This scholarship is given to the first five rank holders in three/ five-year UG and PG courses at the affiliated government Law colleges. A candidate should have passed all the subjects in the first attempt to be eligible for this scholarship. The maximum amount of this scholarship is Rs 25 lakh.

Sri V Endowment Scholarship: A student who has secured first rank in MLIPR degree is eligible for this scholarship. The student will be awarded with a scholarship of Rs 1 lakh.

KGR Scholarship: The first rank holder of BABL (Hons) at the School of Excellence is awarded with this scholarship. The maximum amount of this scholarship is Rs 25,000.
