West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced the full list of candidates contesting for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. Mamata Banerjee announced 291 names of candidates for the 2021 Bengal elections and confirmed that she will be contesting the election from Nandigram.
The TMC candidate list includes a total of 50 women candidates, 42 Muslim candidates, 79 candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC) and 17 from candidates from Scheduled Tribe (ST). Twenty-seven TMC MLAs were not given a chance.
West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in eight phases on 27 March, 1, 6, 10, 17, 22, 26 and 29 April, making it the longest ever polls to be conducted in the state. The votes will be counted on 2 May.
