The University of Wisconsin-Madison Established in 1848, is an open research university which is known to be the largest and oldest university in Wisconsin. Also, it was the first university to be associated with the UW System. Moreover, the university is in collaboration with the AAU, BTAA, APLU, WUN and the URA. It began its first classes with only seventeen students. Presently, it consists of 45,317 students. In addition, the university is famous for an arboretum that is located within the premises. It is a research and teaching facility and also the historic site of ecological restoration. The site was established in 1932 and is spread across 120 acres of land. Wisconsin University is considered among the founding organizations of the AAU.

The campus is located at the bank of Isthmus Lake. This is the main campus and is spread over an area of 936 acres. It is planned and constructed by Arthur Peabody and JTW Jennings. In 2012, the campus was listed among the most beautiful university campuses in the United States. Some of the notable buildings and halls on the campus include the Bascom Hall, Van Hise Hall, Grainger Hall, Music Hall, Humanities building, Dejope Hall, and the Wisconsin Union Hall. In addition, the university has a radio station within the campus, WSUM 91.7 FM.
