The MAKAUT Kolkata state university, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology was established in the year 2000. It has 6 schools. The university offers undergraduate programmes in computer science and engineering, IT (artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cybersecurity, data science), bioinformatics, biotechnology, business administration, robotics and 3D printing and postgraduate programmes in microbiology, molecular biology, food science & technology, clinical genetics, geoinformatics and PhD programmes.
Admission Process
For taking admission into BTech, BArch and BPharm degree courses, a candidate has to secure qualifying marks in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination. For admission into MBA courses, one has to appear for JEMAT exam. For the undergraduate programme in Hotel Management and Catering Technology and MCA courses, one has to appear for JELET and JEHOM exams conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Board, respectively. For M.Tech and M.Pharm programmes, the marks obtained in PGET exam is considered by the university. Lateral entry into the second year or third semester of bachelor of engineering or technology courses can also be taken by appearing for JELET exam. Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria can fill up the application form and submit it. The university will then prepare a merit list for all the courses.

The placement cell provides all the necessary guidance to the students. The key recruiters are Infosys, Wipro, IBM, HackerRank, CTS, Capgemini, Soctronics, Stellar Value Chains Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Coca- Cola India. The university arranges internship programmes for its students.
Scholarships
The university provides the following scholarships – Kanyashree Scholarship, Minority Scholarship, Swami Vivekananda West Bengal Government Merit cum Means Scholarship, and Scholarship to SC, ST and OBC students. It also offers State Government sponsored stipend under Talent Support Programme.
