The Lovely Professional University (LPU) was established in 2005 at Jalandhar, Punjab. This private University has over 20 schools that offer various diploma, UG, PG and doctoral courses such as BTech, MBA, BSc, BBA, BA, BArch, BDes, MTech, LLB and MFA amid others. Approved by UCG and a member of AIU, LPU has received the ‘Best Private University Award’ by ASSOCHAM in 2017.

Being one of the largest single-campus universities in India with over 30,000 students and more than 4,000 faculty and staff members, LPU currently offers over 300 programmes to the students. The campus of LPU houses a central library, a mac lab, an aviation lab, cultural clubs, a hospital, hostels, a gymnasium, an indoor stadium, outdoor playgrounds, ATMs, over 300 eating kiosks, and University mall.

Amid the Covid-19 crisis, the University has developed a live app to support students utilise their time during the lockdown. It also introduced various scholarships worth Rs 20 crore for Covid-19 Frontline Warriors. Admission Process

LPU admission to each course follows a specific admission criteria and LPUNEST is the official entrance (for BTech, MSc in agriculture and LLM) and scholarship exam (for all programmes) conducted by this University. It also offers admission to students based on their academic performance for a majority of programmes. Eligible students are required to register online on the official website. In addition to that, LPU also offers a few admission relaxations to certain category students. The details are as follows:

• There is a 5% relaxation for students from North-East states and Sikkim/ defence personnel and their dependents/ wards of Kashmiri migrants
• Also, a 10% relaxation for sportspersons, i.e. A/A+ category students is there as per sports scholarship (subject to verification from selection committee of the University)

Admission to all the remaining UG, PG, diploma, PG diploma and PhD programmes are based on a valid score in last qualifying exam. In addition to this, LPU also offers a number of programmes through distance education via its distance learning cell referred to as LPUDE.

LPU currently offers over 300 degree and diploma programmes to aspirants at the UG, PG and doctoral levels. The programmes offered by LPU are from a variety of disciplines such as Engineering, IT & Software, Science, Teaching & Education, Management, Commerce, Law, Design, Arts, Physiotherapy and Physical Education, among others. Placements

With an active placement cell, Lovely Professional University offers placements under various disciplines such as Engineering, Management, Design, and Hotel Management. LPU also introduced PEP classes for its students to provide training regarding aptitude, reasoning, soft skills and interview skills to make them industry-ready and also offers free preparation classes for government exams. 

During the recent recruitment drive, over 2,500 offers were made by Fortune-500 companies such as CTS, Amazon, IBM, Verizon, Xerox, and HP. A few more highlights LPU placements drive (2020) are listed below:

• The University recorded 100% placements for most of its courses
• More than 2,000 students were offered international packages in countries such as USA, UK, Canada, and Australia

• Microsoft offered the highest salary of Rs 42 lakh which was bagged by a final year BTech CSE student

Scholarships

In order to help students with their finances, LPU offers a number of scholarships to students. In the past seven years, the University has awarded more than Rs 500 crore worth of scholarships to the students. These scholarships are awarded to candidates for all programmes, ranging from Diploma to PhD based on candidates’ performance.

A number of LPU scholarships awarded to the students based on their performance on any of the following categories:

• Eligibility qualification (on the basis of performance in Class 12 for UG programmes and based on graduation for PG programmes)
• Qualification previous to eligibility qualification (on the basis of performance in Class 10 for UG programmes and Class 12 for PG programmes)
• On the basis of LPUNEST (scholarship test for all programmes)

Campus and Facilities

With a campus area of 600 acre, LPU offers a number of unconventional facilities to its students apart from regular facilities such as well-equipped classrooms and labs. Some of the prominent ones are mentioned below:

• With students coming in from all the states and countries from India and abroad, respectively, LPU offers a rich cultural diversity among its students. And to accommodate its students, LPU has built one of the largest residential capacities in the world.
