  • Jadavpur University has 36 departments that collectively offer more than 25 courses at UG, PG and doctoral level. All these courses are UGC-approved and are offered across four fields, including Arts, Science, Engineering & Technology and Interdisciplinary Studies. The University also has a centre for open learning that is authorised to offer quality education in distance learning mode across multiple fields. In addition to this, Jadavpur University has four distinct centres for advanced studies, including Comparative Literature, Economics, English and Philosophy.
  • Jadavpur University stands on a sprawling 58-acre land whereas its second campus is spread across 26 acre. The facilities of the University include 25 labs, spacious lecture halls, an open-air theatre, sports complex, cafeteria, gym, amenities centre, etc.

Jadavpur University Cells

The University has several student-centric cells that function to maintain the decorum and manage activities of Jadavpur University. The details of which listed below:

Special Education & HEPSN Cell: The major objective of the cell is to ensure equal opportunities for PwD students by facilitating parallel training. It offers special attention to the students and helps them to improve self-confidence

Daycare Centre: For the children of teachers, officers, non-teaching staff, research scholars and regular full-time students, Jadavpur University has inaugurated its daycare centre in collaboration with MAMTA. It is an organization running a day-care centre for children

Anti-Ragging Cell: It is formed to prevent any kind of ragging activities on the campus of Jadavpur University. It is also involved in designing strategies to prohibit such malpractices by adopting an array of student-centric activities.

Grievance Redressal Cell: There is a cell for redressal of grievances with reference to examinations. It is headed by the Controller of Examinations, Jadavpur University.

Equal Opportunity Cell: The cell is responsible for providing equal opportunities in terms of education and other facilities to candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwD categories. The cell also ensures equal rights and reservation for female students.

SC/ ST Cell: This cell manages all the activities concerning weaker sections of the society, including ST and ST students.

Gender Sensitisation & Prevention of Sexual Harassment Cell: The cell is formed to prevent sexual assault and other related crimes on girl students within Jadavpur University premises. Its main goal is to ensure a safe environment for all the students by promoting disciplinary activities.

Jadavpur University Admission Process

Jadavpur University admission to each course follows specific admission criteria. West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE), conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) is the official exam of Jadavpur University for granting admission to several UG courses, including BE, BTech, BPharm and BArch). The University also offers admission to students based on their academic performance for a majority of programmes. Eligible students need to register online for admission. UG courses

  • The admission process for UG courses is initiated when the results for Class 12 examination
  • Admission to BE, BE (Evening), BTech and BPharm is based on a valid score in WBJEE
  • For BArch programme, the admission is based on NATA score
  • Admission to remaining UG programmes, including BA, BSc, B.Lib.I.Sc and BPEd is based on HSC-level merit

PG courses

  • The admission process for PG programmes are initiated in the period of April-May
  • ME, MTech and MTech (Evening) admission is based on GATE score

Jadavpur University Courses

Jadavpur University offers a number of undergraduate programmes, including BE, BTech, BA, BSc, BPharm, B.Lib.I.Sc, BPEd and BArch. At the postgraduate level, the University offers a wide range of courses such as ME, MTech, MA, MSc, MPharm, B.Ed, M.Lib.I.Sc, MEd, M.Arch and MEd among others. The duration of all UG and PG programmes vary according to the nature of their curriculum. At the doctoral level, Jadavpur University also offers a full-time PhD programme in 13 specialisations. Jadavpur University Placements

Jadavpur University has a Training and Placement (T&P) cell that functions as an interface between the final year students and recruiting companies. Every year the T&P cell organises campus recruitment activities like workshops, debates, interaction with alumni and training programmes with its partnered companies as well as industries. It also organises several personal training programmes and initiates the placement process by sending invites to domain-specific companies. Out of the variety of sectors arriving for placing students of Jadavpur University, a major percentage of students are recruited in the Engineering domain.

Jadavpur University placement drive for 2020 graduates and post-graduates began in August 2020 and is still in progress despite the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown. As per the records, until now 85 companies, including both Indian and international MNCs from various segments have made job offers to Jadavpur University students. Given below are some of the Jadavpur University placements highlights for 2020 and 2019:

  • The highest CTC offered so far is Rs 58 LPA and this records a major hike from the top salary offered in the previous year placement drive, which was Rs 42 LPA
  • A total of four students have also received job offers with a package of more than Rs 50 LPA
  • In 2020, a total of 770 students registered themselves for placements from both UG and PG Engineering streams
  • Out of these 770 students, 647 pupils bagged job offers which led to an average placement rate of 84 per cent
  • The recruiters are from a wide range of sectors, including Banking, Engineering, FMCG and Pharmaceuticals
  • Some of the top companies that visited Jadavpur Univesity for placements 2020, include Texas Instruments, Coca Cola, Cipla, Airbus, CESC Ltd, Mercedes Benz, Citi Bank, ADB, Siemens and HSBC
  • Around 84 companies have participated in the 2020 campus placement drive till now whereas 252 companies recruited the students in 2019. Out of these companies, Adobe, Airtel, Amazon, Bajaj Auto, Bennett Coleman Group, Bridgei2i, Capgemini, CGI, Daikin and Deutsche Bank are constant recruiters
  • Also, as per the latest announcement of Jadavpur University Training and Placement Cell (T&P Cell) officer, four big firms have already taken interviews of students during the lockdown period and made good offers while two more are expected to pitch in with offers in the coming days
  • During 2019 placements, Jadavpur University records were even better than many IITs as 78 per cent of the total students were placed on an average with highest CTC of Rs 42 LPA

Scholarships

Jadavpur University offers fee waivers in the form of full and half freeship to needy and meritorious students who cannot afford their fees. The scholarships are offered on recommendation of departments. A maximum of 10 per cent students is covered under the full freeship scheme. The University also offers stipends on a means-cum-merit basis. Around 80 stipends are distributed among the needy and meritorious students out of which one-fourth is for the 1st year students.
