The Heidelberg University is an open research and Germany’s oldest university founded in 1836. Heidelberg is the third university established in the Holy Roman Empire. It became a coeducational institute in 1899. Heidelberg is Germany’s oldest university and one of the world’s oldest surviving universities. Like all other public universities in Germany, Heidelberg does not charge students for tuition. The language of instruction is generally German, while a significant number of graduate degrees are offered in English as well as some in French.

The university offers courses in twelve subjects’ behavioral and cultural studies, philosophy, modern languages, economics, and social sciences, biosciences, physics and astronomy, chemistry and earth sciences, math and computer science, theology, law, and two medical faculties. The university follows a semester-based academic calendar and the main language of instruction is German. Also, some of the popular programs such as Economics, American Studies, International health, and American studies are taught in English. For outstanding research, the university has collaborated with Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, the European Laboratory for Molecular Biology, and the German Cancer Research Centre.
