The Bangalore University was established in 1964. Initially, two colleges, including Central College (CC) and the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) formed the core of Bangalore University. In 1973, the University was shifted to a new campus, namely ‘Jnana Bharathi’ (JB) that was built over 1,110 acre. At present, the JB Campus houses several offices, 48 post-graduate departments, centres of higher learning, an outdoor stadium, etc. Bangalore University is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is accredited by the NAAC with Grade ‘A’. The University is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and is ranked 68 for University by NIRF 2020.
- Structured into six faculties, namely Arts, Science, Commerce & Management, Education, Law and Engineering. It also has four university colleges, 684 affiliated colleges, and several other centres and directorates of higher learning and research under its purview.
- The main campus of the University has six boys and one girls’ hostels offering accommodation facilities to 1,785 and 183 students, respectively. - Government of India Post-Metric Scholarships are made available to Karnataka students belonging to the SC/ ST community. These candidates should also have an annual parental income less than or equal to Rs 2.5 lakh.
- Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Merit Scholarship is offered to the students, who have secured 1st to 5th ranks in previous qualifying degree exam and belong to below poverty line. The scholarship amount is Rs 500 per month for 10 months in each year of the course.
