The Annamalai University is an open university which was established in 1929. It was founded by the well-known entrepreneur, Annamalai Chettiyar. Earlier, the university was a private institution. In 2013, it was taken over by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The university focuses on the fields of Agriculture, Engineering, Medical, Humanities, Science, Physical Education, and Management. The institution is known to be the first university in India to offer a postgraduate degree program in Chemistry, Zoology, Applied Psychology, Bioinformatics, Law, Management and Business Administration. The university is associated with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and University Grants Commission.

Qualifying exams

The admission process is based on the rankings in the entrance examination and previous record of the 10+2 mark sheet. For admission in the undergraduate programme, the students must have secured a minimum of 55% in 10+12 and qualify Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission Test, if applying for B.tech courses. In addition, to be eligible for BE part-time programme, the candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of work experience. For admission to the postgraduate programme, the students are supposed to get qualified in the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test. After qualifying the entrance examination, the students will be called for an interview. The shortlisted students will then be provided with the date of the beginning of the new session.

Placements and salary trends

The university is visited by many well-known companies for recruitments. The students have bagged great salary packages. As per the previous records, the minimum salary offered was INR 2 lakh per year, the median salary was about INR 2.6 lakh annually and the highest salary package offered was INR 10 lakh annually.
