To promote the safety of farmers’ crops across the country and to ensure maximum benefit of crop insurance to the farmers, the Government of India has allocated Rs 16000 crore for the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) for the financial year 2021-22. There is a budgetary increase of about 305 crore rupees for FY 2021-22 as compared to the previous financial year 2020-21, which shows the government’s commitment to the development of agricultural sector in the country.
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has informed that to compensate for the loss of kharif crop due to natural calamities, get registered in the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY). The scheme has time till July 31 to register. Tomar said that farmers are being registered under the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme for the Kharif 2020 season.

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana 2021 Application Form

This scheme will help in decreasing the burden of premiums on farmers who take loans for their cultivation and will also safeguard them against the inclement weather.

The Government of India has recently launched an Insurance portal for better administration, coordination, proper dissemination of the information and transparency for the framers.

- If the field is your own, keep the paper of its Khasra number / account number together.
- The crop has been sown in the field, proof has to be presented.
- As a proof of this, farmers can get a letter written from people like Patwari, Sarpanch, Pradhan.
- If the crop has been sown on rent or on rent, then copy the copy of the agreement with the owner of the farm.
- The account / Khasra number of the farm should be clearly written in it.
- In the event of crop damage, it is necessary to put a canceled check to get the money directly in your bank account.

- Under this scheme, you can insure the farming done on your land as well as you can insure the farmland taken on any borrowed land.
- Those farmers of the country who are not availing any insurance scheme earlier will be considered eligible under this scheme.

Beneficiary Benefits
- To provide insurance coverage and financial support to the farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crop as a result of natural calamities, pests & diseases.
- There will be a uniform premium of only 2% to be paid by farmers for all Kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops. In case of annual commercial and horticultural crops, the premium to be paid will be only 5%.
- The premium for insurance of cotton crop was Rs 62 per acre last year, while it was Rs 505.86 for paddy crop, Rs 222.58 for millet and Rs 202.34 per acre for maize.
- Under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme, insurance will be given for the losses of farmers in their crops. If the crop of the farmer is destroyed due to natural calamity, then they will be given the benefit of this scheme. Farmers pay a 1.5 percent premium to the Rabi crop for 2 percent of the Kharif crop.

- Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana are provided crop insurance at a low premium.
- The central government and some state governments contribute some part under this scheme.
- The scheme has accumulated a premium of Rs 13,000 crore in the last three years, but when the natural calamity came, the farmers received 4 and a half times the premium as compensation of about Rs 64,000 crore.
Coverage of the Risk
Following stages of the crop and risks leading to crop loss are covered under the Scheme.
- Prevented Sowing/ Planting Risk: Insured area is prevented from sowing planting due to deficit rainfall or adverse seasonal Conditions.
- Standing Crop (Sowing to Harvesting): Comprehensive risk insurance is provided to cover yield losses due to non- preventable risks, viz. Drought, Dry spells, Flood, Inundation, Pests and Diseases, Landslides, Natural Fire and Lightening, Storm, Hailstorm, Cyclone, Typhoon, Tempest, Hurricane and Tornado.
- Post-Harvest Losses: coverage is available only up to a maximum period of two weeks from harvesting for those crops which are allowed to dry in cut and spread condition in the field after harvesting against specific perils of cyclone and cyclonic rains and unseasonal rains.
Exclusion of the Risk
The insurance cover will not be applicable in the damage of crops due to any of the following reasons.
- War & kindred perils
- Nuclear risks
- Riots
- Malicious damage
- Theft or act of enmity
- Grazed and/or destroyed by domestic and/or wild animals and other preventable risks shall be excluded.
