How to Apply New Fresh/Re-issue Passport Online in India – e Form Submission

Applying for a passport in india can be done online by visiting the official Passport Seva website. The Ministry of External Affairs has now made all passport applications online, so if you’re looking to renew or apply for a fresh passport, you will have to go through the online application process. 

How to Apply for a Fresh/Re-issue Passport Online?

When looking to apply for a passport online, an applicant needs to follow certain steps. The steps involved are described in details below: 

Online Form Submission

Step 1 Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. (Click on “Register Now” link on the Home Page).
Step 2

Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the registered Login Id.

Direct Login Page Link: https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/user/userLogin

Step 3

Click “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport” link.

Select ‘Fresh or re-issue(renewal) Option’ and  click on Next button

Step 4 Fill in the required details in the form and submit.
Step 5 Click the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen to schedule an appointment.

Online Payment has been made mandatory for booking appointments at all PSK/POPSK/PO.
Online Payment can be made using any one of the following modes:
  • Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
  • Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) Associate Banks and Other Banks)
  • SBI Bank Challan
Step 6 Click the “Print Application Receipt” link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
Note: Carrying printout of Application Receipt is no longer required. An SMS with your appointment details is also accepted as proof of appointment during your visit to Passport Office.
Step 7 Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) where appointment has been booked, along with original documents.

 Online e-Form Submission

Step 1 Download the e-Form through the “Download e-Form” link available on the Home Page.
Step 2 Fill the downloaded e-Form and click the Validate and Save button in it.This will generate an XML file, which will be required later for uploading in the system.
Step 3 Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. (Click on “Register Now”  link on the Home Page).
Step 4 Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the registered Login Id.
Step 5 Upload the XML file (generated in Step 2) through the “Upload e-Form” link.Do not upload the PDF form at this stage as only XML file is accepted by the system.
Step 6 Click the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen to schedule an appointment.

Note:

  • Only emergency/medical cases and preapproved categories may visit Passport Seva Kendra without appointment. Service will be provided at the discretion of Passport Seva Kendra in-charge/Passport Officer.
  • In case of minor applicants (below 4 years of age), carry the recent passport size photograph (4.5 X 3.5 cm) with white background.
  • Resubmission of application form is required, in case the applicant does not visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the online form submission.
