The Nanyang Technological University was established in 1955, with its campus in Yunnan Garden. Later in 1980, it collaborated with the University of Singapore to form a National University. The Singapore University added three engineering schools in the campus of Nanyang University along with the Department of Applied Sciences. In 2004, the University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University distinguished and became two independent universities. Nanyang Technological University awards its students and faculty who make remarkable contributions to the college. It also gives Long-Service Awards to the members working for the university for more than a period of ten years.
The university, situated in the south-west area of Singapore, has two campuses. The main campus of the university is clean and green located in Yunnan Garden. It covers a wide area of over 200 hectares. The other campus is located in Novena, Singapore’s Medical District which is home to many researchers and laboratories. The university also houses the Chinese Heritage Centre, which is a national monument.
