The Maastricht University, which is often abbreviated as UM (Universiteit Maastricht in Dutch), is located in the Netherlands. In its first academic year, a total of fifty students enrolled in the university. The university was facing a shortage of medical professionals.
By the end of 1975, the Dutch Parliament passed the law for the university to gain educational funds and encourage more academic degrees. And soon in 1976, in the year of its official establishment, it received political support and flourished in terms of funds and academic scopes. Maastricht University offers an array of faculties. The faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences is with tentatively 1,950 students and 1,200 staff members. The wide array of disciplines offered here make it unique in the entire European continent.
