IIT Dharwad, is an autonomous premier institute founded by the MHRD in 2016 under the mentorship of IIT Bombay. Currently, the Institute offers a total of nine courses via eight departments in the stream of Science and Technology at UG, PG and PhD level.
At present, IIT Dharwad is operating from its temporary campus established within the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI). The Karnataka Government has provided land of approximately 470 acre for the construction of the permanent campus, which is nearly two-three kilometre away from the transit campus. The contemporary campus provides all the students with hostel accommodation, well-equipped dining hall, labs, workshops and various sports facilities. The library of the Institiute is well-stocked with more than 2,000 books and 3,000 research journals. The instructional and research facilities are being set up with state-of-the-art equipment. Beyond academics, the Institute also has a plethora of student clubs, such as Astronomy Club, Electronics Club, Music Club, Robotics Clubs, Photography Club, etc. Additionally, the Institute Innovation Council (IIC) has been established to systematically foster the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in IIT Dharwad students.

Admission Process
IIT Dharwad admission to UG, PG and PhD programmes is granted on the basis of a candidate’s score in the respective national-level entrance exam. BTech admissions generally begin with the registration of JEE Main in September. For PG and PhD programmes, the application forms are released in March. Candidates must apply online on the official website of the Institute as well as the authorised conducting body of the respective exam. Courses
The Institute offers BTech, MS and PhD, admission to which are based on a candidate’s performance in the respective qualifying exam. The duration of BTech is four years, while that of the MS and PhD programmes is three years. The seat intake in IIT Dharwad BTech course is 40 students in each of the specialisations.
