The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Udaipur or IIMU is one of the 20 IIMs established in the country. Became functional in 2011, IIMU is located in the picturesque city of Udaipur in Rajasthan and is spread over 300 acre of land. Udaipur provides the ideal backdrop of heritage and history to this institute to make a distinguishing mark for Management education in this region. Accredited by AACSB, IIMU currently offers a two-year full-time MBA programme, two one-year MBA programmes and a doctoral programme in the field of Management.

Ranking

In the 2020 rankings released by NIRF, IIM Udaipur was ranked 17 among the top MBA institutes in the country. Other major IIM Udaipur rankings are mentioned below:

Another major accomplishment of IIMU was the rating it received frpm UT Dallas. According to the methodology deployed by the UT Dallas, IIMU was rated 4 among Indian B-schools based on research published in leading global journals. Apart from the above achievements, IIMU also managed to become a part of the prestigious Financial Times (FT) Master in Management (MIM) Ranking 2019 in less than ten years from its establishment. Until 2018, the only IIMs that were a part of this ranking were IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta. In 2019, IIM Udaipur joined this elite group at the 76 position.

Admission Process

IIM Udaipur follows an online admission process for all its courses. For MBA, candidates are required to apply via the official website of CAT and select IIM Udaipur in the options. For the remaining programmes, candidates can apply via the official website of IIMU. Final selection for all the courses is completely entrance-based. Course-wise details regarding IIM Udaipur admission process are as follows:

PG Courses

• IIM Udaipur admission to its two-year flagship MBA course is based on a valid score in CAT. Those selected on the basis of CAT cutoff are shortlisted for Personal Appearance (PA), which is a common process for all IIMs participating in the Common Application Process (CAP). For final selection, a merit list is prepared after calculating the scores of various components, such as CAT, Personal Interview (PI), Written Ability Test (WAT), along with profile score of the candidates.
• International candidates are required to have a good score in GMAT or GRE for admission to two-year MBA
• IIM Udaipur also offers one-year MBA GSCM and DEM programmes for working executives. Admission to these programmes is based on candidates’ performance in GRE or GMAT, followed by a PI round

PhD Course

• For admission to PhD, candidates must have a valid score in CAT/ GRE/ GMAT/GATE/ CSIR NET/ UGC NET exam followed by an interview round

Courses

IIM Udaipur offers three PG and one doctoral-level programme to the students in the field of Management, namely MBA, MBA GSCM, MBA DEM and PhD. Details of all IIM Udaipur courses are as follows:

The two-year MBA is the flagship programme of IIMU. Spread over six terms, it is inclusive of a compulsory internship at the end of the first year. In addition to this, almost 60% of the students get a chance to study or work abroad for a period ranging from two weeks to three months during the duration of the course as a part of the International Corporate Internship, International Business in Practice (IBP) or Student Exchange Program.

The MBA in Global Supply Chain Management programme of IIMU is a one-year residential programme that is offered via two options:

• Option 1: Students get to spend an entire semester at Purdue University in the United States
• Option 2: The entire programme takes place in India with a focus on supply chain management and is inclusive of a two-week international component

The MBA in Digital Enterprise Management is also a full-time residential course and is ideal for professionals with a graduate degree and over three years of work experience

PhD course offered by IIMU is generally of five-year duration and is available across four specialisations

Placements

IIMU has a dedicated Corporate Relations Team that supervises at the complete recruitment process. Final dates of the selection process every year are posted in the ‘Calendar’ released by the institute. Candidates interested in the recruitment process are required to apply to the company and submit their resumes via the Student Placements Committee. The selection process consists of resume-based shortlisting and one or more rounds of personal interviews. Offers, including details of roles, location, salary and other relevant terms and conditions, are conveyed to the candidates through the Student Placements Committee.

In addition to the final placements, IIM Udaipur also offers mandatory summer internships of eight weeks’ duration. These are offered between April and May. Some of the major highlights around IIM Udaipur placements 2020 are as follows:

• A total of 226 students were placed out of a total batch of 256 students
• Two students opted out of the placement process to pursue their own ventures. To support the students in their endeavour, each student was provided with a two-year placement holiday and financial support in the form of a monthly hardship allowance by IIM Udaipur.
• Average salary stood at Rs 13.84 LPA
• The highest package offered was Rs 40 LPA

Scholarships

In addition to the above-mentioned scholarships, IIM Udaipur extends financial assistance to MBA aspirants who have an annual household income below Rs 4.5 lakh. Other students with different severe financial conditions can also apply. This assistance is granted in the form of tuition waivers on the MBA fee.

This institute also offers various forms of financial assistance to PhD students:

• The course fee is completely waived off
• All PhD students are provided with single accommodation (or equivalent) at no charge
• All of them stand eligible for a stipend of Rs 30,000 per month in the first year with a 10% annual increment up to a maximum of five years
• It provides a one-time allowance of up to Rs 50,000 for laptop/PC purchase
• Students are eligible for a contingency grant to buy books, hardware, research materials, software, stationery, etc. for Rs 50,000 in the first year of the programme and Rs 25,000 from the second year onward until the end of the fifth year. All these payments would be subject to the actual amount spent.
