Being the writer of films like Bheja Fry, Titli, etc., he finally came up with an amazing direction with Dum Laga Ke Haisha. The plot of the film is quite natural and we all can see similar incidents from time to time in our society. Stereotypes, social prejudices, emotional conflicts, and how the life of the individual in particular and the family as a whole is dictated by all this is reflected in the truest possible manner. Set in the holy city of Haridwar and Rishikesh with simple appealing touches and gives a natural feel to the story and characters.
Both Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar played their characters in the most organic manner which any of us can relate to. Sanjay Mishra is as natural as he can be. Alka Amin, Sheeba Chaddha, and Seema Pahwa provided good support. The background score by Andrea Guerra is really fantastic. It was fascinating to feel Anu Malik’s creation once again with Kumar Sanu. “Moh Moh Ke Dhaage” in Papon’s voice is soothing to the ears and a gem in itself. Varun Grover definitely has a great future as a lyricist. Sometimes we don’t get a chance to watch a film that really connects with our society and reflects its image.

‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ has its good features in subtle production design and breathtaking photography that brilliantly evokes the 1990s, despite the inevitably simplistic tale. The songs on the tape player by Kumar Sanu unquestionably bring back fond memories. To add some flavor, it also includes some weird comedy and standard Indian family drama. The plot dragged on for two hours, and I thought the editing could have used some improvement.
After the misguided “Hawaizaada,” Ayushmann reinvents himself; Sanjay Mishra continues to amuse; and Bhumi Pednekar makes a strong debut, showcasing her potential. The songs are pretty melodic; I thought “Moh Moh Ke Dhaage” was my favorite. ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ has several drawbacks but also has more favorable aspects.
