The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University – Hyderabad, initially known as Andhra Pradesh Open University, was set up in 1982 through an Act of the A.P. State Legislature. The University is an open institution of higher education situated in Telangana. It offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programmes in multiple fields including, Management, Science, Education, Commerce and Humanities and Social Sciences in distance learning mode. The University is providing services to the student community through a wide network of 213 study centres spread across both Telangana & Andhra Pradesh States, including 23 regional co-ordination centres and 14 number of centres excluding for women students.

- The university offers admission at UG level under two categories i.e. Formal and Non-Formal Stream
- Formal Stream is for those candidates who have completed formal education at Class 12 level and are admitted through direct admission
- Under Non-Formal Stream, those candidates are admitted who don’t have formal education but have completed 18 years of age in the given year. Selection of candidates under this category is done through Eligibility Test (ET). The test is conducted only to check whether the candidate possesses necessary skills of reading, writing, analysis and arithmetic.
- MBA candidates will have to produce marks scored in entrance exam, Integrated Common Entrance Test (TS ICET/AP ICET)
