The University of Barcelona is an open institution of higher education situated in the city of Barcelona in Spain, which caters to a large number of students by offering higher education programs. The university was founded in 1450 and is recognized as the 5th oldest university in Spain and one of the oldest universities across the globe. Also, the institution of higher education is associated with prominent groups like Coimbra Group, Mediterranean Universities Union, European University Association, LERU, and International Research Universities Network.
The university occupies a total area of 500,000 sq. m and has a huge network of centers. It is home to sixteen faculties and several institutes and units. Also known as UB, the university offers 75 undergraduate programs, 353 graduate programs, and 96 doctorate programs to more than 90,600 students representing different nationalities. Other than these programs, it maintains 30 research centers to offer research facilities. As per the data of 2005, it houses 100 departments, divided into 16 faculties, 2 university schools, 1 school and 8 attached schools delivering learning in different areas of academics.
