The University of Wurzburg, the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (abbreviated as JMU) is a public research-centric university in Würzburg city of Bavaria state, Germany. Established in 1402, it is known to be amongst the oldest institutions of higher education in the country. It was shut down in 1415 due to some development issues but reopened in 1582. The university is associated with Coimbra Group and U15 group of research-intensive German institutions.

JMU has a beautiful campus that comprises pathways, parking areas, green spaces and well-maintained buildings with cutting-edge facilities, which include the Centre for Natural Sciences, Central Library Building, Centres for Operative Medicine, Biocentre and Lecture Halls. The institution provides state-of-the-art academic, administrative, recreation and support facilities for the students. The library system of JMU consists of the main university library and several departmental libraries, each one of which holds a rare and unique collection of printed and electronic resources. The Sports Centre houses an arcade, a gymnasium, swimming pool, weight room, gymnastics hall, sauna, cardio studio and a climbing wall. Other sports facilities include a fitness centre, multi-purpose hall, stadium, artificial turf field, side field, hard court, skate court, street soccer arena, outdoor fitness tower, tennis courts and beach volleyball courts. The university has a boathouse at its site in Mergentheimer.
