The Emory University is a private research university that was established in 1836. It is associated with the United Methodist Church and is the second oldest university among the 50 oldest institutions in the United States. The university began a medical faculty in 1917 which was named the Emory Unit. It began as an all-male university and later on, it changed into a coeducational university in 1953. In 2005, the EU rewarded a medal which was later known to be the highest award of honor presented by the university. In addition, some of the major research centers were constructed, namely the Centre for Cancer Research, Centre for Scientific Research, Centre for Biomedical Research, and the Centre for Vaccine Research. These research institutes were established in the 21st century within the premises.
The main Atlanta campus covers more than 600 acres in the historic suburb of Druid Hills, a gracious, park-like residential area designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. The campus is covered with greenery and is densely populated with maple and oak groves. It consists of one of the largest inventories, the Energy and Environmental Design in the United States. Also, the campus is home to some of the great antique artifacts in the country. Many research institutes are located within the undergraduate residential center. The campus provides a peaceful environment for the students. It features all the necessary facilities required by the students. Also, the campus is nearby restaurants, cafes, departmental stores, and many other shops which fulfill the basic requirements of the students.
