The Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (previously known as Amrita University), established in 1994, is a private deemed-to-be-university and an entity of eminence located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a multi-campus and multi-disciplinary university with six campuses and 15 constituent schools spread all across the southern part of India. AVV offers a total of 207 undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, integrated-degree, dual-degree and certification programmes in Engineering, Business, Medicine, Arts and Sciences, Biotechnology, Mass Communication and Social Work. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was founded with the opening of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, and is run by her international humanitarian organisation Mata Amritanandamayi Math. In 2003, it became one of the youngest institutes to become a deemed university, when it was conferred this status by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
