The Calicut University, also known as The University of Calicut, is a state private university that was established in 1968 in Calicut. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It is accredited with an “A” Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. In 2020, it was ranked 54 for University by NIRF. It was also ranked 40 for University by the Outlook in 2019.

The campus of the University is well-equipped with all basic facilities, such as computer centre, labs, auditorium, conference hall, library, botanical garden, university park, university museum, science instrumentation centre, smart classrooms, Wi-Fi and more.

It offers UG, PG and diploma programmes under 30 post-graduate departments and 426 constituent & affiliated colleges. It also has off-campus centres in Thrissur, Lakshadeep and Vatakara. Apart from the full-time courses, it also offers courses under Directorate of Distance Education.

Admission Process

Currently, the University offers more than 20 UG, PG, PhD, diploma, PG diploma and certificate programmes in various fields such as Engineering & Technology, Language, Education, Science, Vocation and more. Admission to UG programmes is conducted through UGCAP, a centralised counselling process for UG programmes and Directorate of Admission. Candidates, who meet the given eligibility criteria, can apply through the official website of the University. The course-wise details regarding Calicut University admissions are given below:

UG Courses

  • A valid score in KEAM is required for admission to BTech and BTech (LE)
  • Admission to other UG programmes is done on merit-basis, followed by UGCAP process
  • Candidates, who have completed Class 12 from a recognised board, can apply for UG courses

PG Courses

  • MBA admissions are based on CAT/ MAT/ CMAT/ KMAT scores
  • A valid score in GATE is required for MTech admissions
  • Admission to MSc is based on an Entrance Test conducted by the University
  • Admission to other PG courses is done on merit-basis
  • A candidate must have completed graduation in the relevant stream to apply for any of the PG programmes

MPhil/ PhD Course:

  • Admission to MPhil and PhD is based on PhD/ MPhil Entrance Test, conducted by the University
  • Candidates, who have completed master’s in the relevant field, can apply for MPhil/ PhD programme

Additional Courses

  • Admission to certificate, diploma and PG diploma programmes is done on merit-basis
  • Candidates, who have completed Class 12, can apply for certificate and diploma programmes
  • A candidate must have completed graduation to apply for PG diploma

Courses

At the UG level, the University offers ten different courses, namely BA, BSc, BTech, BTech (LE), BCom, BBA, BTA, BJ, BVoc and B.Lib.Sc. The duration of these programmes varies from course-to-course. At the PG level, it offers MA, MSc, MTech, MTA, MCJ, M.Lib.Sc, MCom and MBA programmes. The duration of M.Lib.Sc is one year, whereas other PG programmes have a duration of two years. Apart from the UG and PG programmes, it also offers MPhil, PhD, diploma, certificate and PG diploma courses in various fields. Admission to BTech, MTech, MBA, MSc, PhD and MPhil programmes is entrance-based, whereas admission to other courses is done on merit-basis.
