The Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) was established in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in 1984 by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust, established by the academic visionary Dr. S.Jagathrakshakan. The institute is ranked 36th for University by NIRF in 2019. It has four institutions Sree Balaji College of Nursing, Chennai, Sree Balaji College of Physiotherapy, Chennai, Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), Chennai and Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SLIMS), Pudhucherry.
It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and also a Member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It is also accredited with the Highest Grade ‘A’ by NAAC, Government of India.
